There are a lot of articles out there online and in print that you may find interesting, and likely don't have the time to read. The article, "Take back control of rates and rooms," found on HotelMarketing.com caught our attention as an important, relevant article.

The article discusses the problem of taking bookings through third-party discount providers (e.g. Expedia.ca). The writer's conclusion was that despite selling more - mostly via these discounters - properties were yielding less due to the cut net rates.

The quotation from the article that jumped out at us was, "We [hoteliers] need to wean ourselves from our dependency on them [discounters] by developing our web skills and programs to produce more direct Internet business. Survey, after survey, has shown that people prefer to deal directly with the hotel. The answer is to make it easier for them to do business with us."
