Weird and Wonderful Web Words

Search Engine Optimization and Marketing
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) means to make sure that your website has content that supports the keywords that you hope searchers will use to find you. For example, if you hope that people using Google will type in the search terms, "horseback riding Prince Rupert" you need to have those words on your web pages.

Search Engine Marketing (SEM) means that you are using advertising to bring people to your website. Search engines offer a pay-per-click model (or variation thereof) that makes sure that when someone types in "llama herding in the Kootenays" that your website is shown. If someone clicks on it, you pay for that click.

Ideally, you would have the same search terms you are paying for on your website so that both SEO and SEM activities worked optimally and the person visiting your site had more trust in your marketing work.
